Being the setting of novels from romance extraordinaire Jane Austen, it is no wonder that Bath is considered one of the UK’s most romantic cities. There’s a whole host of activities for loved-up couples to enjoy on a Valentine’s Day break and with the personal touch of staying in an independent guesthouse or B&B, you can guarantee it will be a really special romantic getaway.
We’re sure you know your partner well enough to be able to wow them with a day out in Bath for Valentine’s, but just in case, here are a few suggestions for how to spend the day.
- Visit a spa
Bath is probably most famous for its natural hot springs and the Roman Baths. Historically it was one of the more popular UK spa towns, so it is no wonder that visiting the Thermae Bath Spa is a great option for a relaxing, romantic trip away. Bath is the only place in the UK where you can bathe in naturally hot, mineral-rich spa water. If the weather is nice, you might also want to head to the open air roof top pool and take in the sights all while having a calming swim. The Thermae Bath Spa isn’t the only spa operating in the city, there are a number of hotels and spas running in the city including ones set in vaults under the city and ones with art therapy rooms so you can experience all manner of relaxation techniques.

You can see a whole new side to this gorgeous city by embarking on a romantic boat trip. You can either set sail from the iconic Pulteney Bridge or take a trip to the Kennet and Avon Canal and get a boat from there. Why not take the Austen connection to a whole new level by donning a white shirt and re-enacting that famous Darcy scene while boating around the city. - Go for a leisurely stroll
One of the reasons why Bath is a great destination for romantics is the close proximity to miles of beautiful countryside. You can take a relaxed stroll around one of Bath’s parks or head to the Skyline Walk to take in the views of the city. There are walking trails all across the city so you can walk into the Cotswolds or out towards Bradford-on Avon. These trails are great for stopping for a picnic or dropping into a pub or café on route.
